About McArthur Farm Supply
The McArthur family has proudly served Northern California for generations.
In the late 1800s, John McArthur, founder of the town of McArthur, established the John McArthur Mercantile, a dry goods store that quickly became a cornerstone of the community. That original building still stands today and is fondly known as The Old Merc.
In 1963, John and Shirley McArthur—grandson and granddaughter-in-law of the original John McArthur—founded McArthur Farm Supply out of their barn, dedicated to supporting the region’s farmers and ranchers.
Since 1991, McArthur Farm Supply has been owned and operated by George and Chris McArthur, son and daughter-in-law of John and Shirley. In 2024, Jon Neugebauer, a long-time local and agricultural professional, joined as a partner in the business.
Farming & Ranching Tradition
Married in 1988, George and Chris McArthur founded McArthur Livestock, an operation that has steadily grown over the years with a strong focus on their cow-calf and yearling programs. Their dedication to family, livestock, and the land has been the cornerstone of their continued success.
George and Chris have two sons, John and Scott McArthur. John is a Major in the United States Marine Corps, where he served 11 years at Camp Pendleton as a UH-1Y Venom “Huey” helicopter pilot with the 267 Squadron. He now resides in Yuma, Arizona, with his wife, Clair, and their daughter, Merida, where he serves as a VMU-1 drone pilot.
Scott is a graduate of George Fox University and earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC Riverside. A recent graduate of the California Agricultural Leadership Program, Scott is now a partner in McArthur Livestock alongside his parents. He lives in Durham, California, with his wife, Sarah, and their two daughters, Elena and Margot.
Leadership in Agricultural Services
Jon Neugebauer, a resident of the McArthur area for more than 20 years, graduated from Chico State with a degree in Agribusiness and minors in General Agriculture, Crop Science, Fruit Science, and Animal Science. A licensed Pest Control Adviser (PCA), Jon manages day-to-day operations at the store, ensuring seamless support for customers while the McArthur family focuses on ranching. He and his family also operate a successful cattle and hog program in the valley.
